Scott Logic commits to Real Living Wage

22 July 2024

Scott Logic has been officially accredited as a Real Living Wage Employer.

This commitment will see everyone working at Scott Logic receive a minimum hourly wage of £12 in the UK or £13.15 in London. Both rates are significantly higher than the government minimum for over 21s, which currently stands at £11.44 per hour. The commitment also extends to Scott Logic's key suppliers, such as office cleaners.

Scott Logic currently employs over 400 people across the United Kingdom, who are all permanent employees. Its headquarters and largest office is in Newcastle, which Newcastle City Council, a Real Living Wage employer, intends to make a Real Living Wage City with accreditation from the Living Wage Foundation. Of the 14,000 employers across the UK who voluntarily pay the real Living Wage, only 174 are in Newcastle.

Graham Odds, Scott Logic Chief Strategy Officer, said, "We're proud to be headquartered in Newcastle and part of the North East community. Scott Logic funds scholarships at Newcastle University and Durham University for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, because we believe in creating opportunity."

The Real Living Wage is the only rate calculated according to the costs of living. It provides a voluntary benchmark for employers that wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum. Since 2011, the Living Wage movement has delivered a pay rise to over 460,000 people and put £3 billion extra into the pockets of low-paid workers.

Scott Logic CEO, Steve Foreshew-Cain, said, "We recognise that paying the Real Living Wage is the mark of a responsible employer and we believe that a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay."

Katherine Chapman, Director, Living Wage Foundation said, “We’re delighted that Scott Logic has joined the movement of over 14,000 responsible employers across the UK who voluntarily commit to go further than the government minimum to make sure all their staff earn enough to live on."
